Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about SDS authoring and chemical compliance
Platform & Features
What is Chemplora?
Chemplora is an SDS authoring and chemical management platform. It helps companies and consultants create compliant safety data sheets, manage chemical inventory, generate GHS labels, and keep documentation current across several markets at once. It carries the ECHA C&L Inventory, calculates classification from your composition for your review, and tracks every change to every record, so when regulation moves, you know which of your products are affected.
How is the SDS content filled in?
You can fill in content in several ways, depending on how much control you want. You can enter free text or pick a phrase from the smart phrase library. When adapting an imported SDS, the AI reads and extracts data from the whole document at once. If you want more control, you add content chapter by chapter with the help of an AI assistant. Any text you enter can easily be turned into a phrase and translated through the translation memory. Since a phrase carries its translation with it, once prepared it becomes reusable, so each following document for that market is produced faster. After checking the market-specific data, you arrive at a finished SDS in no time.
Learn moreDoes Chemplora include a substance database?
Yes. Chemplora carries the full ECHA C&L Inventory, over 300,000 substances, including Annex VI harmonised classifications, CAS and EC numbers, M-factors, occupational exposure limits and regulatory lists. The SKS lists (the national lists of classified substances in Serbia and Republika Srpska) are included as well. You can also build and maintain your own substance library alongside it.
Learn moreCan I track chemical inventory with Chemplora?
Yes. Chemplora includes chemical inventory management with stock levels, location and department hierarchies, minimum-level alerts, recorded consumption and compatibility checks for storage. Inventory items link directly to their SDS documents, so safety information and labels are one click away.
Learn moreIs there an API for integration?
We build REST API integrations with ERP, PIM and other business systems case by case - syncing product data, triggering document generation and retrieving documents. Talk to us and we'll scope it to your systems.
Learn moreIs my data secure?
Data is stored and processed in the EU (Microsoft Azure, Germany West Central). It is encrypted in transit and at rest, and backed up regularly.
What happens to my data if we stop using Chemplora?
Your data is exportable in full: documents, substance data, phrase libraries and translation memory. Nothing is locked to the platform, and export or deletion is available on request at any time.
SDS Authoring
What is an SDS (Safety Data Sheet)?
A safety data sheet is a standardised document describing the hazards of a chemical product and how to handle, store and transport it safely, including what to do in an emergency. It follows the 16-section structure defined by the Globally Harmonized System (GHS), and is required under REACH and CLP in the EU and under equivalent national rules elsewhere.
Can I import existing SDS documents?
Yes. Upload a supplier PDF, a scan or an image and Chemplora extracts the content into structured, editable fields: product identification, composition, classification and the rest of the document. Where a document is poorly structured, the system tells you which sections it couldn't locate and flags low-confidence fields for checking.
Learn moreHow does the AI-powered extraction work?
The system first works out which pages hold which section, then extracts the data points from each one and files them into the right fields. Where it can't locate a section or isn't confident about a value, it says so, and you can re-run any individual section with a more thorough model. Nothing is saved until you review it.
How many languages does Chemplora support?
Chemplora supports SDS generation in 30+ languages across the EU, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina (including Republika Srpska), Montenegro and North Macedonia. Translation memory is maintained per customer, so your terminology stays consistent across your own library. Standard regulatory phrases carry their translations with them; your own content is translated once and then reused wherever it appears.
Learn moreHow does Chemplora handle version control?
Every change is tracked, including who changed what and when, for products, substances, companies and phrases alike. You can open any earlier version, compare it against the current one side by side, and restore it. Deleted records are archived rather than erased, so history stays intact and a deletion can be undone. Account and personal data is handled separately and can be exported or erased on request.
Learn moreDoes the AI write content on its own?
No. The assistant places content you provide into the correct subsections and fields. It doesn't generate regulatory content of its own. Extraction reads what's in the supplier document; the assistant files what you give it. Every value is visible and editable before anything is saved, and your documents are not used to train AI models.
Does Chemplora cover transport classification?
Yes, for road, rail and inland waterway (ADR, RID, ADN), sea (IMDG) and air (ICAO/IATA). You search the dangerous goods list and select the UN number for your product; Chemplora then fills in the proper shipping name, packing group, classification code, tunnel restrictions and special provisions, and carries them straight into section 14 of the safety data sheet. Assigning the UN number stays your decision; the rest of the section doesn't have to be.
Learn moreCan I produce labels and workplace instructions from the same data?
Yes. GHS labels are generated from the product's classification, with pictograms selected automatically, custom label sizes, and UFI codes where required. Workplace instructions (a one- or two-page summary for the people actually handling the product) are generated from the current version of the SDS.
Compliance & Regulations
Which regulations does Chemplora support?
Chemplora supports the European Union regulatory framework, primarily REACH and CLP, as well as the regulations of Bosnia and Herzegovina (including Republika Srpska), Serbia, Montenegro and North Macedonia. The platform was built modularly from the start, so any national framework based on UN GHS can be implemented quickly. All regional and national implementations stem from the UN GHS document, and Chemplora follows that same logic. This makes it possible to add specific hazard classes, mandatory statements, and local labelling requirements without building the system from scratch.
What is GHS classification?
The Globally Harmonized System (GHS) is an international standard for classifying chemicals based on their health, physical, and environmental hazards. It defines criteria for hazard categories, pictograms, signal words, and hazard statements. Chemplora calculates health and environmental classification, and flammability of liquids, from your composition and proposes the matching labelling elements for your review.
What is the difference between UN GHS and EU CLP?
UN GHS (the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals) is the global model published by the United Nations. It is not law on its own: each jurisdiction adopts it, and may leave out some of its hazard classes and categories or add its own. EU CLP (Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 on classification, labelling and packaging) is the EU regulation that implements UN GHS in the European Union. National regulations, such as Serbia's, take over CLP. The latest version of UN GHS is revision 11, from 2025. Most countries are still using revision 7 and 8 (EU), or even earlier versions. Chemplora supports both the UN GHS framework and EU CLP-specific requirements like UFI codes, Poison Centre notifications, and additional EUH statements.
Does Chemplora handle UFI codes and poison centre notification?
Yes. Chemplora generates UFI codes and builds the PCN dossier ready for submission; today you submit it yourself, and direct submission to ECHA is in preparation.
Learn moreWhere does the substance data come from, and how current is it?
Substance data comes from the ECHA C&L Inventory and from national regulatory authorities; harmonised classifications follow Annex VI to CLP. Chemplora currently implements ATP 22, and ATP 23, which applies from 1 February 2027, is already available for use ahead of that date. Regulatory lists are maintained in-house and updated as each change is published.
What happens when a regulation changes?
Chemplora records the change and shows which of your products are affected. Where the classification hasn't moved, you see that too, so your time goes only to what actually changed. Each affected document can be compared against its previous version before you issue a new one.
Pricing & Getting Started
How do I get started with Chemplora?
The easiest way to get started is to book a demo. We'll show you the platform, discuss your specific requirements, and help you understand how Chemplora fits your workflow. After that, we set up a trial environment: with your data if you send it to us, otherwise with sample data.
How much does Chemplora cost?
Pricing is tailored to each company. It depends on the size of your organisation and how you intend to use the platform, such as the number of users, the volume of safety data sheets you author or maintain, and which markets and languages you need to cover. Because of that, we prepare a quote per customer rather than publishing fixed packages. Book a demo or get in touch and we will walk through your requirements and send you a concrete offer.
Can I move over from my current system?
Yes. Whether your data sits in another SDS platform, in spreadsheets, or in a folder of supplier PDFs, we map your existing structure and bring your products, substances and documents across. Documents can be imported in bulk through the extraction engine. You can keep working in your current system during the transition.
Who is Chemplora for?
Two kinds of users. Consultants and agencies producing documents for many clients, who need each client's data kept in a separate workspace, with the client's own logo on their documents. And manufacturers, importers and distributors managing their own portfolio across several markets, who need inventory, labels, workplace instructions and transport data in the same place as the documents.
Learn moreDo you have a partner programme?
Yes. Consultants, chemical advisers, distributors and local partners in markets outside the EU and the Balkans can recommend Chemplora to their clients or resell it under their own contract. The terms are agreed individually in a partnership agreement.
